MCS Extends Grace Period for MCS 012

Final extension gives installers clarity and manufacturers time to align with the latest standard

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) has confirmed a final extension to the grace period for certain solar mounting products affected by certification changes under Issue 3.0 of the Solar Mounting Product Standard (MCS 012).

When Issue 3.0 took effect on 10 May 2025, several solar mounting products lost certification. MCS opened an investigation to understand the differences in approach taken by Certification Bodies (CBs) when applying the new standard and to determine how best to maintain consistency across the industry.

To minimise disruption, a six-month grace period was introduced to allow continued use of affected products while the review was underway.

Outcome and Next Steps

Following the conclusion of the investigation, MCS has now confirmed a final nine-month extension to the grace period, running until the 10th August 2026.

This additional time allows:
• Certification Bodies and manufacturers to ensure certification processes under MCS 012 are transparent and clearly communicated
• Greater consistency in how solar mounting products are tested and certified across different CBs
• Increased confidence for installers in the reliability of certified products

What Installers Need to Know

Until 10th August 2026, installers can continue using affected solar mounting products that previously held certification. These products are clearly identified in the MCS Product Directory with the label “GRACE PERIOD” next to the certification number, and certification dates shown as 10/05/2025 – 10/08/2026.

After this date, all affected listings will expire automatically and will no longer appear as selectable options in the MCS Installations Database when creating an MCS certificate.

Check Product Status Before Installation

Several solar mounting products have already achieved certification to MCS 012 Issue 3.0. To confirm whether a product is certified to the latest version or falls under the grace period, installers should always verify listings in the MCS Product Directory before procurement or installation.

Key Takeaway:
Installers have until the 10th August 2026 to use solar mounting products under the grace period — but it’s essential to double-check certification details and plan procurement accordingly.

*The withdrawn certificates primarily impact products from manufacturers such as Alumero, Clenergy, K2 Mounting Systems, Solar Slate Plate, Wagner, and Fastensol.
