UK Primary School achieves net-zero target 29 years ahead of the government’s 2050 targets! 

A primary school in Chedworth, Gloucestershire has become carbon neutral 29 years ahead of the UK’s 2050 net-zero target set out by the Government.  

29 Years Ahead of Schedule

The project started in January 2021 after the primary school secured £114,051 funding from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and Salix Finance. The school incorporated a number of renewable technologies including solar photovoltaic (PV), air-source heat pumps (ASHP), and battery storage to store any excess energy.  

The headteacher of the school stated that “we wouldn’t have been able to undertake the projects without the funding” and that “these upgrades will improve the energy efficiency of the building and reduce the need for additional heating or cooling during the year”.

An Energy-Efficient Future

The project has had a knock-on effect on the staff and students’ passion for sustainability and the school has directed a focus within its curriculum to cover the climate crisis and to offer other after-school activities that highlight the importance of having an energy-efficient future.
