Calling New Build Installers

Calling New Build Installers

Have you seen an increase in installations since the Part L regulations came into force?

Back in 2021, Solar Energy UK questioned whether the change in regulations would result in an increase of PV on new build homes as developers are free to try and find an alternative technology to PV. Many developers will be looking to achieve the targets at the lowest cost, and this once again highlights the question ‘will they choose PV?’.

This June saw an update to the Building Regulations which included the uplift to Part L. The change should create a steady and sustainable market for new build installers, without the highs and lows associated with previous schemes. To achieve the target CO2 emissions rate, all new homes will be required to have a renewable energy source. And all new homes in England and Wales must now produce 31% fewer carbon emissions than previously acceptable in the old regulations.

Calling all New Build Installers!

Anyone undertaking any home improvement projects, extensions, renovations, or self-builds will be affected by the changes to the regulations. Every year in England around 180,000 new homes are built and before the Part L regulations it was estimated that only 10% of new builds had PV installed, the updated regulations have been estimated to see the number of PV on new builds rise to around 80%.

The regulations should see improvements for those purchasing new build homes as they are future-proofed against issues that we are currently facing such as the rise in energy costs and are assisting in reaching the government’s ambitious 2050 goals.
