Affordable and Reliable Clean Energy for Farms

Grants: Many regions of the UK now offer grants for small wind turbines for farms funded from the EU's Agricultural Fund for Rural Development. These grants are administered via the UK's regional development agencies. Typically grants may be £10,000 - £20,000 or up to 40% of the total cost, but vary across the country. Please visit our regional information pages or contact Segen for information on grants in your local area.

Nobody ever said that farming was easy, and today it is more true than ever that farmers must seek to maximise the use of their land as well as find ways to reduce costs and become more attractive suppliers to their key customers.

We all know that energy prices are going up, but only time will tell how far or fast, and that this uncertainty makes planning ahead very difficult. Many farms in the UK however have a great untapped asset, which is the wind that blows across the land, often with negative effects.

Installing a small wind turbine however can change that, allowing you to;

  1. Save the purchase cost of the energy that you generate for yourself and when you export your surplus energy back to the grid.
  2. Have power from the wind, even when your grid connection has failed, or where there is no grid.
  3. Supplement the power from the grid when your needs are greater than your connection capacity.

Segen offer a range of small wind turbines suitable for use on farms, each with different capacities, characteristics and cost.

  • The Iskra AT5-1 is suitable for smaller farms, especially in windier areas, where its efficiency and performance across a range of wind speeds make it ideal for generating power whenever the wind is blowing.
  • The Gaia 11 has an exceptionally large rotor diameter and therefore swept area, and for farms with a three phase supply and moderate wind speed, may be the ideal turbine to choose.
  • The Westwind 20 is suitable for larger farms, especially with high wind speed, where it is second to none in terms of power generation.

Most farms offer an ideal location for a small wind turbine so enter your postcode into our free wind speed checker to find out how much energy you could be generating each year from the wind.
