Segen Solar PV Systems

Back Next

Please read the PV Siting and Solar PV FAQ pages and then try our free system configuration tool to estimate how much energy you could get from a Solar PV system and provide a budgetary price of the various systems we offer, or if you would like someone from Segen to contact you to discuss your requirements.

Segen offers PV systems in a number of standard sizes, with solar panels from two major manufacturers, and may be specified to be connected to the grid, or used to charge a battery bank for off-grid applications, where no grid connection is available.

Systems may be ground or roof mounted, or on the side of a building.

An ideal location would be south facing on a 30 - 40 degree angled roof, with nothing shading the panels.

Domestic

  • A solar photovoltaic system can be mounted onto most types of domestic property to help power your home and reduce your use of carbon based fuels.
  • A south facing roof can have panels mounted onto the roof to maximise the energy capture or panels can be mounted in your garden using mounting structures that enable the panels to be angled and orientated in the most optimal direction.
  • In a new build or renovation application the roof material itself can comprise of solar tiles offering the best possible appearance.
  • A typical 2.8kWp domestic system will generate 2,200kWh per year saving over 1/2 tonne of CO2.
  • You should be eligible for a grant of £2,500 from the Low Carbon Building Programme which can bring the cost down to typically £4,000 per kWp after grant.

We offer four standard packages for domestic installations based upon the Sharp 180W mono-crystalline PV panels and Fronius grid connection inverters. This provides a very cost effective combination and maximises the annual energy yield from the available space.

Domestic installations should normally be eligible for a grant of up to £2,500 from the Low Carbon Building Programme, and most local authorities will not require you to obtain planning permission, except in special areas or a listed building. and will be installed by a fully accredited installer.

Other larger sizes and bespoke configurations can be quoted for on request. Systems may be ground mounted or attached to a sloping roof which is more south than north facing. Alternatively the panels may be mounted onto a flat roof.

The 1.4kWp system should generate around 1,100kWh per year and the 2.8kWp system, around 2,200kWh. It is important however to site your array where it will not suffer significant shading from nearby buildings or trees etc. from the South East to the South West.

Either size of array may be connected directly to the consumer unit in your own property thereby reducing your need to purchase electricity, and any surplus energy may be exported and sold back to your supplier.

If your requirement however is for a non grid connected property, then the PV array can be configured to directly charge an existing, or new, battery bank and mains voltage power can be produced from an inverter.

In either case you can also claim Renewable Obligation Certificates for any energy generated by your Solar PV system, irrespective of if you use it yourself or export it back to the grid.

School and Community

  • A solar photovoltaic system can be mounted onto almost any type of building to help reduce the carbon footprint and deliver on-site renewable generation targets or provide excellent educational benefit.
  • A south facing roof can have panels mounted onto the roof to maximise the energy capture.
  • Panels can be mounted onto a flat roof using low weight mounting structures that enable the panels to be angled and orientated in the most optimal direction.
  • In a new build application the roof material itself can comprise of solar tiles offering the best possible appearance.
  • A typical 5kWp system will generate 5,000kWh per year saving nearly 2.5 tonnes of CO2.
  • If you are one of the following types of organisation you may be eligible for a grant of 50% of the total cost from the Low Carbon Building Programme:

    - Local authorities

    - Housing associations and trusts

    - Hospitals

    - Schools

    - Universities and colleges

    - Libraries

    - Public service organisations

    - Registered charities

    - Environmental trusts

    - Local community groups governed by written constitution

    - Community Amateur Sports Clubs

  • The fully installed cost, after grant, will typically be £2,500 per kWp.

We offer four standard packages based upon the Kyocera Poly-crystalline PV panels and Fronius grid connection inverters. This provides a very cost effective combination and minimises the cost per kWp.

Community, School and Council projects may be eligible for grants up to 50% of the cost under Phase II of the Low Carbon Building Programme.

Commercial

  • A solar photovoltaic system can be mounted onto almost any type of commercial building to help reduce the carbon footprint and deliver on-site renewable generation targets.
  • A south facing roof can have panels mounted onto the roof to maximise the energy capture, panels can be mounted onto a flat roof using low weight mounting structures that enable the panels to be angled and orientated in the most optimal direction or used as building cladding where appropriate
  • In a new build application the roof material itself can comprise of solar tiles offering the best possible appearance.
  • A typical 10kWp commercial system will generate 8,000kWh per year saving nearly 5 tonnes of CO2.
  • Prices vary by the type of the installation, but will typically be £5,000 - £5,500 per kWp.
  • An SME may be eligible for an interest free loan from the Carbon Trust to help fund the system.

We offer any size or configuration for commercial installations based upon the Sharp 180W mono-crystalline PV panels and Fronius grid connection inverters. This provides a very cost effective combination and maximises the annual energy yield from the available space. Shown below however are some typical examples.
