Mounting a Solar PV System |
Please read the information on this and the Solar PV FAQ pages and then try our free system configuration tool to estimate how much energy you could get from a Solar PV system and provide a budgetary price of the various systems we offer, or if you would like someone from Segen to contact you to discuss your requirements.
There are many different ways in which PV panels can be mounted onto a roof or the ground. Each of the ones Segen can supply is described below. The most appropriate type will be determined once a full site survey has been undertaken.
![]() | Pitched Roof - Mounting RailsUsing various different attachments designed for the type of roof covering, e.g. tiles or slate, a mounting rail system is attached to the main structure of the roof and the PV panels are attached to the rails. This is a flexible arrangement allowing most configurations and sizes of PV panels to be attached to all common roof types. Following a site survey Segen will design a suitable system including the attachment and ensure that the roof structure is strong enough to take the required weight.
Flat Roof - TraysOn suitable flat roofs, solar PV panels can be mounted in plastic trays which are angled at about 15 degrees to improve the energy capture. These systems are quick and simple to install and following a detailed site survey Segen will recommend a suitable system, depending on the type and strength of the roof. Segen can either supply standalone trays that are ballasted with sand or gravel, or an interlocking system suitable for lighter weight roof structures. | ![]()
![]() | Ground Mounted - PoleEither 8, 12 or 16 panels can be mounted onto a single pole structure that can easily be orientated towards the south at the most optimal angle to maximise energy capture. These poles require minimal foundations to be prepared and the systems can be rapidly installed at a height above the ground to suit the requirements of the location. these systems can withstand wind speeds up to 120MPH, which is probably more than the average house can.
