- Reports to Technical Director
- May have one or two direct reports (graduate engineers etc.)
- Based in Stroud, Gloucestershire (Includes significant UK travel)
- Salary c.£28-35k pa depending on experience
The Role - Carries operational responsibility for mechanical engineering aspects of wind turbine, CHP, PV and micro-hydro installations, including commissioning and sign-off
- Provides technical input to feasibility studies for new installation proposals
- Leads and manages development of new products, including subcontract and supplier activities
- Creates, maintains and organises project documentation and provides regular reports on status, risks and plans
- Gives hands-on, practical contribution to all operational aspects of the company’s business
- Guides and mentors junior engineering staff to develop their skills and experience
The Person - Minimum 5 years of experience in a position of substantial technical responsibility
- An interest and/or experience in renewable energy systems, particularly wind and hydro
- Preferably qualified to degree level in mechanical engineering (minimum HNC/HND qualified with substantial relevant experience)
- A good understanding of electrical engineering an advantage
- Experience of practical engineering (apprenticeship-served / site work / installation / prototype building an advantage
- Mature and self-motivating; able to operate and lead others with minimal supervision
- Proven record of delivering technical projects on time and on budget
- Flexible, practical and pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Good communication and team interaction skills
- Computer literate (ideally CAD trained in AutoCAD and Solidworks or similar)
- Full driving licence + car
Senior Civil Engineer- Permanent full-time position
- Reports to Technical Director
- Based in Stroud, Gloucestershire (Includes significant UK travel)
- Salary c.£28-35k pa depending on experience
The Role - Carries operational responsibility for civil engineering aspects of wind turbine and micro-hydro installations, including commissioning and sign-off
- Selects and manages subcontractors to deliver civil engineering projects on time and on budget
- Provides technical input to feasibility studies for new installation proposals
- Deals directly with relevant authorities regarding planning and approval aspects of installation projects
- Guides and mentors junior engineering staff to develop their skills and experience
The Person - Minimum 5 years of experience in a position of substantial technical responsibility
- Qualified to degree level in civil engineering, preferably a member of a recognised institution (for example ICE)
- An interest and/or experience in renewable energy systems, particularly wind and hydro
- Experience of site work / installation work an advantage
- Experience of foundation design and ground works, including in a river environment an advantage
- Mature and self-motivating; able to operate and lead others with minimal supervision
- Proven record of delivering technical projects on time and on budget
- Flexible, practical and pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Good communication and team interaction skills
- Computer literate (experience of AutoCAD an advantage)
- Full driving licence + car
Renewable Energy Engineer- Permanent full-time position
- Reports to Senior Engineer
- Based in Stroud, Gloucestershire (Includes significant UK travel)
- Salary c.£18-25k pa depending on experience
The Role - Provides technical support for engineering aspects of small wind turbine, micro-hydro, CHP and PV installations, including commissioning and sign-off

Micro-Hydropower EngineerPermanent full-time position Reports to Senior Engineer Based in Stroud, Gloucestershire Salary c.£18-22k depending on experience
The Role Segen’s micro-hydropower team is active all over the UK developing hydropower sites with up to 150 kW output. We provide all of the services necessary to get a project from initial enquiry to commissioning, which includes site surveys and feasibility studies, regulatory licensing and planning consents, engineering design, project management, installation, commissioning and on-going maintenance. We are looking for a new member of the team to be involved in all of the above areas. Key roles will be: - Carrying out site surveys and writing feasibility study reports
- Processing customer enquiries and selling hydro services
- Applying for regulatory licenses and planning consents
- Practical installation work at customer sites
And as experience builds: - Mechanical and electrical system design using AutoCAD
- Providing technical support for customers and the sales team
- Taking a leading role in managing projects from start to finish
In addition there will be opportunities to get experience with Segen’s other main technologies; wind, solar PV and CHP systems. The Individual - Technically competent; you might have an engineering degree or HNC/HND. Qualifications aren’t essential, but demonstrating technical competence will be.
- A good understanding of theoretical and practical engineering.
- Knowledge of electrical systems an advantage.
- Enthusiasm for renewable energy systems.
- Willing to travel and work at customer sites when required.
- 1-3 years of good quality engineering experience.
- Good report writing & communication skills.
- Familiarity with the common office software packages.
- Experience of practical engineering (apprenticeship-served / site work / installation).
- Enthusiastic team player and also self-motivating and able to operate with minimal supervision.

OFFICE ADMINISTRATOR (NORTHERN OFFICE)- Permanent full-time position
- Reports to Installations Support Manager
- Based in Bolton, Manchester
- Salary c.£14-16k pa depending on experience
The Role This is a varied role in a busy technical & sales support environment. Supporting both the Technical Team and the Sales Manager, key responsibilities will be:- - Take and direct incoming calls & handle incoming post.
- Arrange deliveries, parts, plant hire, hotels for team to allow installations to run smoothly.
- Prepare expenses for the Accounts Dept in relation to the team.
- Raise Purchase Orders for project related or office related items
- Ensuring the team diary is kept up to date.
- Manage the office (order stationary, recycling etc.)
In the future the role may also be responsible for the scheduling of installs for team. The Person The applicant should:- - have experience working within an office environment, ideally for a technical team
- be computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- have a professional telephone manner
- have excellent communication skills
- be able to resolve problems quickly and effectively
- have high levels of initiative and a strong attention to detail
Qualification You will have a good all round level of education along with proven experience in a similar admin/sales office working for a professional organisation in a busy office. You will have excellent customer service skills, experience of a dealing with customers over the phone, be able to handle queries effectively, able to use word and excel, be highly organised, able to prioritise and work to deadlines, have a positive can-do attitude. Warehouse Manager- Based in Bolton, Greater Manchester
- Reports to the Installations Support Manager
- Permanent full-time position
- Salary c. £25-30k pa depending on experience
The Role To fully manage Segen's warehouse and logistics department. Key Responsibilities - Incoming and outgoing goods checks
- Liaising with suppliers on quality issues ensuring a quick resolution
- Planning, organising and packing ‘installation kits’ for installation engineers
- Stock Inventory
- Maintains levels of Stock to ensure business continuity
- Submitting purchase order requests
- Updating on-line goods movement software
- Managing returns of faulty items
- Respond to day-to-day logistical requests for support or advise ensuring effective resolution
- Maintain price lists from suppliers
- Arranging all transportation requirements to include site installation kits and service/breakdown spares
The Person Must be committed to working to the highest Health and Safety standards Skilled and experienced within the stores and logistics field and enjoy keep everything tidy and ordered - Have a background as an assistant stores manager or warehouse manager
- Ideally have experience of MRP systems or PC stock control database system
- Can demonstrate good computing operating skills
Have a hands-on approach and be keen to further develop your own skills Have a valid driving license Committed to resolving customer queries, concerns and problems. Fork truck licence an advantage.
